Mayor Eric Adams' Misguided Crime Narrative and Policing Policies As Mayor Eric Adams faces his own legal battles, it's alarming to witness the continued efforts to paint New York City’s urban areas as crime-ridden, while imposing policies that push us toward a police state. This false narrative of rampant crime in communities of color is not only misleading but deeply harmful. While crime is a concern across the city, it is a reality in every neighborhood, including predominantly white areas where aggressive policing tactics, such as stop-and-frisk and the broken windows policy, are conspicuously absent. Mayor Adams has taken the wrong approach by disproportionately targeting Black and brown communities while ignoring that crime is not bound by race or zip code. The policies he supports reflect a deliberate neglect of fairness and equality, perpetuating the myth that communities of color are the primary source of crime. We know that safety comes not through aggressive policin

Tyre Nichols was beaten to death , and justice has been denied once again for a Black man in America. This isn’t just about a failed system—it’s a deliberate choice by that system to preserve the same racist, violent structures that Malcolm X fought against. His fight against state-sanctioned terror is alive in our fight today because nothing has changed. Nothing. Let’s make this clear: Tyre Nichols was murdered. Not "wronged." Not "mishandled." Murdered—by a system that constantly shifts blame, plays legal gymnastics, and devalues Black life at every turn. These officers aren’t held responsible for his death because the system isn’t built to hold anyone responsible for killing a Black man. It’s built to protect those who enforce the status quo of Black death and Black pain. This verdict is a slap in the face to Nichols’ family, to Black communities, and to every Black person in this country who lives knowing they’re walking targets. How many times have we heard thi

A BLACK MAN'S STORY.  There are things that people witness in life that should never be seen—acts of violence, injustice, and cruelty that leave scars on the soul. Yet what often lingers most is not just the trauma of those moments but the silence that follows. The loud, oppressive silence that hangs over families, communities, and generations as they watch loved ones suffer, yet feel powerless to stop it. The silence of bystanders, the silence of those who’ve been taught that certain struggles are inevitable, that certain harms are just a part of life. For far too long, many have stood by in silence as people they care about have been harmed—physically, mentally, and emotionally. The damage done is profound, the wounds deep, and the effects linger, sometimes for decades. It’s the kind of pain that echoes in nightmares, that manifests in physical ailments, like headaches and sleepless nights. And this pain is not carried by one person alone. It’s carried by entire communities—commu
